The River View Cafe in Shrewsbury is a scenic café set in a Grade II listed former hospital building, with indoor seating and an outdoor terrace looking across some of the town's best-known landmarks. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement shuffle while someone else orders. The riverside-adjacent setting gives it a lovely pause-and-reset feel, which works well after a walk or before carrying on into town.

The menu leans into breakfast, lunch and cake-stop usefulness rather than anything overcomplicated, and the site specifically welcomes dog walkers and cyclists. It's the sort of place that works for a slower brunch, a post-stroll refuel or a sit-down with views when everyone needs five civilised minutes. Open Monday to Saturday, with slightly longer hours on Saturdays.

Scenic, practical and very easy to fold into a day in Shrewsbury, especially when wet weather calls for somewhere warm with river-view calm and a dog winding down after their important walking duties.
