Days Out Are For Dogs Too

Indoor Welcome Last Verified:

Right in the heart of Ambleside, the Lakes' walking capital, The Temperance Inn is surrounded by winding streets, a lively atmosphere, and those sublime mountain views that make you say "wow" even while your dog is mid-sniff. It started life as a temperance establishment in the 1800s, which feels wildly ironic now, because these days it's exactly the place to settle back with a glass in hand after a day out in the fells.
Location-wise, it's hard to beat. You're perfectly placed for lakeside strolls, bigger climbs to famous summits, and even a steamer trip across Windermere, which makes it a brilliant pick for a car-free Lake District getaway. Walk, boat, eat, repeat, without ever negotiating a car park again.
Dogs are more than welcome here too. There are designated dog-friendly areas in the pub and restaurant, with water bowls and treats available, including Sir Woofchester's. Pet-friendly rooms are available across all rooms in the main inn, while cottage rooms in the annex are usually kept pet-free, so let them know at booking time to get the right room allocation. Your dog will consider this a five-star holiday, even if the only activity they truly care about is locating the treat stash.
