With Waterhead Pier handily opposite and an easy stroll into Ambleside, The Waterhead Inn (and its Lake House rooms) is an ideal springboard into the Lake District. It works whether you're stopping in for a drink with a view, settling in for home-cooked pub food, or booking a proper pub stay with the lake practically on your doorstep.

It's a particularly handy base if you like the idea of exploring without relying on a car, thanks to strong public transport links and the pier right there for boat trips across Lake Windermere. Food and drinks are served all day, every day, and the vibe is warm and friendly in that classic Lakes way, with a side of "yes, you can take your muddy boots off now".

Dogs are more than welcome too, which is excellent news for anyone travelling with a four-legged tourist who believes every new place is their new favourite place. There are designated dog-friendly areas in the pub and restaurant, with water bowls and treats available, including Sir Woofchester's options.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Free treats available

Doggy menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside in designated areas of the pub and restaurant, with water bowls and treats (including Sir Woofchester's options) on hand. Pet-friendly rooms are available too, so mention your dog when booking to secure the right room.
