Thetford Priory

Thetford Priory is a compact 12th-century Cluniac ruin in the centre of Thetford, free to visit and officially dog-friendly on lead. English Heritage manages the site and dogs are welcome across the outdoor grounds, including the surfaced main path and closely mown grass areas around the stonework. The ruins themselves are atmospheric—enough standing wall and arch to give a sense of scale without requiring hours to explore—and the site works nicely as a quick heritage stop when you're already in town.

Dogs must stay on lead and can't climb on the ruins, but there's plenty of space to wander and sniff between the flint and stone remains. The priory is open daily from 11am to 3pm, closed only on Christmas Day.

There's a small free car park near the entrance, though it's not managed by English Heritage. Perfect for slotting into a morning or afternoon out in Thetford, especially when the weather's kind and the dog fancies a short wander with a bit of history.
