That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Trerice is a National Trust Elizabethan manor house and garden near Truro and a proper heritage day out for those who plan around the dog. While the house itself is off-limits to four paws, dogs are welcome in the garden and most areas on short fixed leads, including the hayloft, secondhand bookshop, visitor welcome building and the café while ordering. Outdoor seating is available for a post-wander sit-down.

The garden is the main draw for dog owners, with mown grass areas all fine for paws on leads; though beds, borders and long grass are out of bounds. The potager, mowhay field and shop are also no-go zones and retractable leads are not allowed, so keep things short and fixed. There is a car park, making it easy to build into a day near Truro or Newquay.

It is rare to find a National Trust property that lets you bring the dog to this many areas, so Trerice works well for anyone wanting a meaningful heritage visit without splitting up the group. Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the whole site, as always.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome in the garden and most visitor areas on short fixed leads, but not in the house, shop, potager or mowhay field. No retractable leads allowed, so keep it short and fixed for a calm heritage mooch.
