Tretower Court and Castle

Tretower Court and Castle near Crickhowell is a rare medieval double-act: a fortified stone castle dating from the 12th century and a handsome manor court built in the 15th century, set within shared grounds a short drive from Brecon. Managed by Cadw, the site offers history-loving dog owners a properly substantial day out with cobbled paths, gravelled courtyards and ground-floor rooms open to dogs on short leads.

Your dog is welcome to explore the ground floor of both the court and accessible parts of the castle, keeping them in the thick of the visit while you take in the timber-framed galleries, fireplaces and displays. Upper floors and some castle sections remain off-limits to ordinary dogs, but there's plenty to see at ground level and the outdoor spaces offer room for a sniff and a stretch between buildings.

Open daily from 10am to 5pm, Tretower makes a practical choice for a half-day heritage outing where the dog stays with you throughout. The car park is gravelled and there's additional roadside parking opposite the court if the main area is busy.
