Twyford Waterworks

Twyford Waterworks is a scheduled-heritage Edwardian pumping station on the edge of Winchester, where industrial history meets open-day machinery and outdoor exploration. Dogs are welcome on a short lead around the site, including the main buildings and visitor areas, making it an unusual dog-friendly day out for heritage fans who'd rather keep their dog at their side than leave them home. The Waterworks opens on selected Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00, with last admissions at 15:00.

Visitors can see working steam engines, boilers, a demonstration railway and guided interpretation of the pumping machinery and its role in Winchester's water supply. Ample free parking is provided adjacent to the site, so you can walk straight in without juggling coins and the lead. Dogs must be well behaved and kept on a short lead throughout.

Access is limited to advertised open days, so check the schedule before setting off. It's a proper industrial-heritage attraction with tea room facilities, nature areas and plenty of outdoor interest for dogs who don't mind the smell of oil and history in equal measure.
