Tyneham Village

Tyneham Village is a haunting heritage site on the Purbeck coast near Swanage, requisitioned by the military in 1943 and never returned. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout the village ruins, paths and car park when the site is open, making it a memorable day out for owners who love a bit of history with their walk. The village includes the atmospheric church, a schoolroom exhibition and the shell of cottages frozen in time.

Access is seasonal and controlled by the Ministry of Defence firing range schedule, so check GOV.UK for current opening times before you set out. A small visitor car park is available with a requested donation per car.

The outdoor setting and gravel paths suit dogs who can handle a lead and won't mind the occasional curious sheep. Indoor exhibitions aren't confirmed as dog-accessible, but the open-air ruins and coastal setting give plenty to explore when the range is open to the public.
