That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Wallington is a National Trust historic house and estate near Alnwick, set across extensive woodland, gardens and riverside trails. Dogs on lead are welcome across almost all of the outdoor grounds, including the walled garden, woodland paths and River Wylam walks, making it an excellent full day out for the whole pack. The estate's Clocktower Café and gift shops allow dogs inside, so you can keep everyone together at refreshment stops without the car-park relay.

The house itself and children's play areas remain off-limits to ordinary dogs, but with miles of trails and a genuinely dog-friendly walled garden, most visits feel generously inclusive rather than frustratingly fenced off. Non-members pay admission; parking is included.

Leads are required throughout, which helps when navigating busier spots near the café or walled garden entrance. It's the sort of National Trust property where the dog gets a proper outing and you still get cake without the guilt of leaving them behind.
