Days Out Are For Dogs Too

That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Watersmeet in Ilfracombe is pure storybook countryside, the kind of place where your dog suddenly becomes a professional sniffer and you become a person who says things like "listen to the river" unironically. Expect gorgeous woodland paths, dramatic little bridges, and that soothing soundtrack of rushing water that makes everyone calm down, including the dog who usually believes squirrels are a personal challenge. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the valley and in the indoor seating area, so you can plan a proper coffee stop without the pavement-waiting shuffle.
The air smells amazing, the views are the kind you'll keep talking about, and your dog will have the time of their life reading every leaf and rock like a bestselling novel. It's an ideal walk when you want shade, scenery, and a route that feels properly special without needing complicated planning.
Bring good shoes, a camera, and a towel if your dog is the type to "accidentally" meet the river up close. Watersmeet delivers the full woodland-and-water day out, with enough sniff stops and scenery to keep everyone happy.

Dog Policy:
Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the valley and in the indoor seating area, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle. They're not allowed in the servery where orders are made. Dogs can splash in the river, but watch the currents—some paws are braver than their swimming certificates suggest.
