Weald & Downland Living Museum near Chichester is an open-air heritage museum with more than fifty historic buildings spread across 40 acres and dogs are welcome through most of them. This is one of the few museums where your dog can follow you into workshops, houses, barns and farmsteads while you explore centuries of rural life. Only the watermill, Newdigate bakehouse, Dairy and Winkhurst Tudor kitchen are off-limits.
Dogs must stay on a short lead throughout the site and flexi leads aren't permitted. The museum opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00 in the main season and there's free on-site parking in the car park opposite Amberley station.
A designated dog-friendly section of the café, including the outdoor decking, means you can take a break without splitting up. With animals on site, hands-on exhibits and enough variety for a full day out, it's the sort of place where the dog gets as much exploring done as you do.
