West Dean Gardens is a large restored garden near Chichester where dogs on short leads are welcome across the grounds and arboretum. Victorian glasshouses, planted borders and miles of woodland paths make this a proper half-day or full-day visit for gardeners who refuse to leave the dog at home. Access is grounds-wide, so you can explore the seasonal planting, the arboretum and the open parkland together.
Dogs must stay on a short lead throughout and waste bags and bins are provided. The estate has farm animals roaming the fields, so a reliable recall or a steady lead hold is essential. Free on-site parking makes arrival straightforward, with designated spaces for disabled visitors and coaches.
The gardens open daily year-round, closing only on 24, 25 and 31 December. Opening hours are 09:00 to 17:00 from March to October and 09:00 to 16:00 from January to February and November to December. Admission is charged and pre-booking is only required on event days.
