West Lancashire Light Railway is a heritage narrow-gauge railway at Hesketh Bank, just south of Southport, offering a proper steam and diesel ride through the Lancashire countryside. Well-behaved dogs on a lead travel free on all trains, making this a brilliant day out when you want to keep everyone together without the usual canine fare. Trains run seasonally on Sundays and Bank Holidays from around Easter to early November, with frequent departures between 11.30am and 4.30pm on normal running days.

Special event dates run throughout the year. Dogs are welcome in passenger carriages, so you can ride together as many times as you like on your ticket. The Waiting Room cafe serves hot and cold drinks with outdoor and covered seating. Free car parking is available at the rear of the railway.

For Santa Specials, you may need to book a whole compartment unless your dog is small enough to sit on your lap. Advance tickets are available but not essential for most services, so you can turn up and travel when the weather looks kind.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Dog Policy:

Dogs travel free on a lead in passenger carriages, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle. For Santa Specials you may need to book a whole compartment unless your dog is small enough to sit on your lap.
