One of the UK's most iconic nature reserves and the National Trust's oldest, Wicken Fen near Cambridge is a vast, open landscape made for slow exploring with the dog in tow. It's a place that welcomes both regular local walkers and day-trippers looking to stretch things out a bit further.

Dogs are welcome across large parts of the wider reserve, including Baker's, Adventurers' and Burwell Fens, with miles of paths to explore. Just keep them under close control to help protect wildlife and nesting birds. Some sensitive areas are restricted, so check the signage as you go.

Dogs on a short lead are also welcome inside the Visitor Centre and shop, and when ordering in the Docky Hut Café. For eating, outdoor picnic benches are the go-to, with some indoor seating sometimes available — making it an easy, well-set-up stop during a longer walk.
