Woodhorn Museum

Woodhorn Museum is a major industrial heritage site in Ashington, set around a former colliery with exhibitions, historic buildings and outdoor spaces. Well-behaved family dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas of the site on a lead, making it a generous day out for curious paws and history-loving humans alike.

The main Cutter Building, Winding House Café and function rooms are off limits to ordinary pet dogs, though assistance dogs may go everywhere. Your dog can still enjoy the outdoor colliery site and grounds while you take in the scale of the place, and there's free parking on site with tarmacked and gravelled visitor car parks – helpful when you're juggling leads, bags and the inevitable post-sniff tangle. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and daily during Northumberland school holidays. The café opens Wednesday to Sunday, 10.30am to 3.30pm.

It's a substantial visitor destination with plenty to see and the outdoor access means your dog gets to be part of the trip without missing out on the adventure. Water bowls are provided in the car park and outside the main building, so thirsty paws are covered.
