That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Zugers of Chester is one of those places that quietly becomes “the spot” once you find it. Tucked just off the main flow of the city, it blends café, tearoom, and restaurant into a cosy, slightly tucked-away space where breakfasts stretch into lunches and cake somehow becomes essential.

The food leans indulgent but comforting. Think generous breakfasts, brunch plates, toasties, and a serious line-up of homemade cakes and afternoon teas that feel like a reward rather than a decision. It’s family-run, which shows in the details, friendly service, proper portions, and that relaxed, unhurried feel that makes it easy to settle in.

There’s also a hidden courtyard garden out back, a bit of a calm pocket in the middle of the city, perfect for those slower, “let’s just stay a bit longer” moments.

It’s an ideal stop when you want something reliable, cosy, and genuinely welcoming, especially after a wander along the walls or around the amphitheatre nearby.
