Days Out Are For Dogs Too
Finding dog-friendly pubs and bars in Matlock Bath is less about sticking to a plan and more about seeing where the river path, hillside lanes or sudden hunger detour takes you. Between the promenade, fish-and-chip stops and the constant pull of “one quick drink before we head back,” it’s a place built around easy pauses. Luckily, there are plenty of spots where dogs are welcome inside rather than tied to a chair outdoors while everyone else warms back up.
🍺 Pubs & Bars
The Fishpond Freehouse → Riverside, relaxed and one of those places where a short stop quietly becomes a longer one.
Hodgkinson’s Hotel Bar → Cosy, characterful and ideal when the weather turns Peak District dramatic.
The Old Bank Cafe Bar → Easy-going and great for that mid-afternoon reset drink.
The Loft → Slightly more modern energy with a lively end-of-day feel.
Riverside Inn stops → Matlock Bath does “wander in for one” extremely well, especially after a long riverside loop.
Across Matlock Bath, the rhythm is wonderfully simple. You walk beside the river, drift into somewhere warm, the dog settles under the table, and then everyone heads straight back out into the hills or promenade buzz like the pause was part of the plan all along.
