If you’re anything like me, your dog isn’t just a pet - they’re a full-on travel buddy. So when I planned a trip to Lincoln, I was on the hunt for places where my furry friend could tag along without a fuss. Turns out, Lincoln is a gem for dog owners, packed with pet-friendly spots that make exploring a breeze. Whether you’re after scenic walks, cosy cafes, or shops that welcome wagging tails, this city has it all. Let me take you through some of the best pet-friendly Lincoln attractions and tips for a pawsome visit.
Exploring Dog-Friendly Lincoln Attractions
Lincoln’s charm isn’t just in its historic cathedral or quaint streets; it’s also in how welcoming it is to dogs. One of my favourite spots has to be the Lincoln Arboretum. This beautiful park offers wide-open spaces, winding paths, and plenty of benches for a well-deserved rest. It’s perfect for dogs who love to sniff around and meet other four-legged friends. Plus, the lake adds a lovely backdrop for photos or a quick splash if your dog is feeling adventurous.
Another must-visit is the Boultham Park. It’s a bit quieter than the Arboretum, which is great if your dog prefers a more relaxed atmosphere. The park has lovely trails and a playground, so if you’re travelling with kids too, everyone’s covered. I found it a great spot to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
For those who enjoy a bit of history with their walk, the Lincoln Castle grounds are surprisingly dog-friendly. While dogs can’t go inside the castle itself most of the year, the surrounding grounds and walls offer fantastic views and plenty of space to roam. Just keep your dog on a lead, as there are often other visitors and some steep drops. Keep an eye on their socials as they occasionally host special dog-friendly weekends!
And just a stone's throw from the castle is the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral, which welcomes well-behaved dogs all year round.

Where to Eat and Drink with Your Dog in Lincoln
Finding a place to grab a bite or a coffee with your dog can sometimes be tricky, but Lincoln has plenty of options that welcome your canine companion. I stumbled upon several cafes and pubs that not only allow dogs but actually seem to enjoy their company.
One standout is The Cardinal's Hat, a historic, traditional pub with a warm atmosphere and a dog-friendly policy. They even have water bowls and treats ready for your pooch. It’s a great spot to relax after a long walk and enjoy some hearty British fare.
If you’re after something a bit further out of the city centre, The Plough is a lovely family friendly pub that welcomes dogs inside. They serve excellent food and a wide range of soft and alcoholic drinks, and the staff are genuinely friendly to both humans and dogs. I appreciated the relaxed vibe and the chance to recharge while my dog snoozed at my feet.
For a more casual option, try Take 5 Tea Room. Whether you're popping in for a bacon butty to take away, or to sit down for a catch up over Afternoon Tea, Take 5 serves fresh, homemade food, made on the premises with good quality local produce.

What Stores Allow Dogs?
Shopping with a dog can be a bit of a gamble, but Lincoln has some shops that roll out the welcome mat for your furry friend. Independent boutiques and some larger stores in the city centre often allow dogs, especially if they’re well-behaved and on a lead.
If you’re looking for a gift or a souvenir, then head to Follie, a little treasure trove of unique finds, beautiful gifts and special home accessories waiting to be discovered. They are dog friendly and even gave mine a bit of a fuss.

Tips for Enjoying Lincoln with Your Dog
Now, I’m not going to pretend that every moment was perfect. Travelling with a dog means being prepared for the unexpected. Here are some tips I picked up along the way to make your visit smoother:
Bring plenty of water and a portable bowl. Lincoln’s parks and streets can get warm in summer, and it’s important to keep your dog hydrated.
Keep a lead handy. While many places are open for dogs, some areas require them to be on a lead for safety and courtesy.
Check opening times. Some cafes and shops have specific dog-friendly hours or days, so a quick call or website check can save you disappointment.
Pack some poop bags. It’s basic dog etiquette, but you’d be surprised how many people forget. Lincoln’s parks are well-maintained, and it’s up to us to keep them that way.
Don't forget the wipes. I have recently found doggy wet wipes to aid in my cleaning up of their chops of sometimes their bottoms.
Be mindful of other visitors. Not everyone is a dog lover, so keeping your dog calm and under control helps everyone enjoy their visit.
If you want to explore even more options, I highly recommend checking out the dog-friendly regional map for lots more places that welcome dogs a little further afield. You can find this map at the bottom of the Lincoln page.
Making Memories in Lincoln with Your Dog
At the end of the day, what really makes a trip special is the memories you create. Lincoln offers a wonderful mix of history, nature, and hospitality that makes it a fantastic destination for dog owners. Whether it’s watching your dog splash in a pond, sharing a meal in a cosy pub, or simply wandering the cobbled streets together, these moments stick with you.
I’ll admit, I was a bit sceptical at first about how easy it would be to travel with my dog in a city like Lincoln. But the experience changed my mind completely. It’s not just about finding places that allow dogs - it’s about discovering a community that embraces them. And that makes all the difference.
So, if you’re planning a trip and want to bring your four-legged friend along, Lincoln should definitely be on your list. Pack your bags, grab the lead, and get ready for some dog-friendly adventures you won’t forget.
