Dog-Friendly Bournemouth

Last Updated:

18 Jun 2026

Bournemouth combines long coastal walks with clifftop gardens, wooded chines, parks and a busy centre containing plenty of cafés, pubs and shops. Dogs can use all beaches from October to April, while summer access is limited to designated year-round dog-friendly sections and leads are required on promenades, piers and connecting paths. The result is still a strong dog-friendly base, but choosing the correct beach section matters during the warmer months.

Slug & Lettuce

FLIRT Cafe & Bar

Coastal Cruises

Short on time? Start with these three Bournemouth favourites: a lively town-centre bar, a central cafe and bar and a sightseeing boat trip.

Slug & Lettuce welcomes dogs inside until 8pm, making it a reliable town-centre stop where everyone can sit down together without the outdoor seating gamble. Dogs are welcome Sunday to Friday, with Saturdays at the manager's discretion if it's too busy.

FLIRT Cafe & Bar serves breakfast, coffee, cake and light bites with dogs welcome inside, making it a handy central refuge in the Triangle area. It works well as a pause before or after walks through town, the gardens or the seafront.

Coastal Cruises offers sightseeing trips from Poole Quay with well-behaved dogs welcome aboard for a £2 charge. Access depends on the specific sailing, so it's worth checking before booking to ensure a straightforward day out on the water.

Forest and Steam Railway Day Out

3–5 hours · Best for families wanting woodland trails and heritage trains

Drive to Moors Valley Country Park for woodland trails around the lake, the Play Trail and dog-friendly refreshments at the Visitor Centre restaurant. Afterwards, drive to Swanage Railway for a steam train journey through Purbeck with stops at Corfe Castle, keeping dogs on standard services. Both venues need a car to visit from Bournemouth.
