Swanage offers a traditional seaside visit with a compact Victorian town centre, sandy beach and access to dramatic coastal walks including the South West Coast Path. Dogs are banned from Main Beach between 1st May and 30th September but welcome year-round at Monkey Beach near the pier and on parts of North Beach. Durlston Park is well-signposted from the town centre, and dogs are welcome on the heritage steam railway to Corfe Castle. The town centre has cafés, pubs and independent shops.

The White Swan is a dog-friendly pub in the heart of Swanage where dogs are welcome inside, making it easy to settle in for a drink without leaving anyone tied up outside. It sits centrally on the High Street, a practical stop after the beach.

Manor Farm Tea Room welcomes dogs inside its cosy tea room in Studland, serving homemade cakes, light lunches and hot drinks in a relaxed farm setting. Water bowls are provided and muddy paws don't raise eyebrows.

City Cruises Poole runs sightseeing boat trips from Swanage Pier with well-behaved dogs welcome on board throughout the sailing. Dogs must stay on the lead but can join you on deck, offering a rare chance to enjoy the Dorset coast together on the water.

Start at The White Swan on the High Street, wander down to the Victorian seafront and explore Swanage Pier with views across the bay. Stop for coffee or breakfast at The 1859 Pier Cafe & Bistro at the pier's end, then walk the promenade back towards town and settle in at Carve Coffee by the beach before heading home.

Walk or drive south to Durlston Country Park and explore the clifftop paths, Victorian castle and galleries with your dog on lead. Drive or take the bus north to Studland village and settle into the Bankes Arms for drinks or lunch in the bar or garden. Stroll down to Studland Bay's sandy beach, walk the shore towards Knoll Beach and browse the National Trust Shop before heading back through the village or along the coast.

Outside the summer restriction period, dogs can access Main Beach freely. The seasonal ban is clearly signposted and applies only to the main sandy stretch, so you still have beach options throughout the year. Studland Bay, a short drive or bus ride north, also offers year-round dog-friendly sandy beach access.
