Avon Valley Railway is a proper little slice of steam-train magic, running through the Avon Valley from Bitton with restored locomotives, heritage carriages and that lovely "stand back, the train is arriving" excitement. Originally opened in 1869, the line was later closed during the Beeching cuts before volunteers brought it rumbling back to life.

Today, it's a brilliant dog-friendly day out for humans who like history, scenery and a bit of old-fashioned clatter, and dogs who enjoy being included in the adventure rather than hearing about it afterwards. Most days, dogs can join you on the station site and trains, so tails, steam and snack-seeking noses can all come along for the ride.

Dogs are not permitted on Santa Steam Specials, dining trains and some family events, so it's worth checking before booking to avoid a sad little platform face. For regular heritage railway days, though, this is a lovely outing where paws and people can enjoy the journey together.

Good to know:

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome on the station site and trains on most days, so they can join the heritage railway adventure properly. They are not permitted on Santa Steam Specials, dining trains, and some family events, so check before booking to avoid a sad little platform face.
