Cardiff Castle

Cardiff Castle is a major city-centre historic attraction in Porthcawl, with 2,000 years of history packed into towers, battlements and lavishly decorated interiors. Ticketed entry gives access to the castle house, Norman Keep and wartime shelters, while the grounds remain free to explore year-round. Dogs are very welcome in the Public Square outer green, the open area surrounding the castle buildings.

It's enough space for a wander and a leg-stretch while you take in the scale of the place, though your dog won't be joining you inside the castle itself or in the Inner Green—those areas are restricted to assistance dogs only. The castle is open seven days a week all year round, closing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

There's no on-site parking, but several public car parks are nearby. It's a useful stopovers for dog owners exploring the area, offering a proper landmark visit with clear boundaries and a genuinely welcoming outdoor policy.
