Furness Abbey is a historic English Heritage ruin in the Furness Valley, a short drive south-west of Hawkshead, offering a substantial half-day or full-day heritage visit.

The site centres on the evocative remains of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery set in welcoming grounds, with a visitor centre, small exhibition, shop and picnic area to support your day out. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the abbey grounds and outdoor areas, making it an accessible destination for a heritage-minded dog walk. There's a dog water bowl at the rear of the Visitor Centre if your dog needs a drink between exploring the ruins.

The free car park sits next to the Visitor Centre entrance, with additional parking at Abbey Mill café nearby. The practical advantage is the clarity: dog owners can plan around the access that is confirmed without guessing at the gate.
