Highcliffe Castle is a historic visitor attraction near Swanage, set in extensive grounds overlooking the coast. The Grade I listed castle offers guided tours of grand interiors, costumed events and heritage rooms, plus tearooms, a gift shop and car parking on site. While only assistance dogs are welcome inside the castle itself, ordinary dogs on leads are permitted throughout the grounds and in the gift shop, making it a proper day out for dog owners who want a bit of history with the walk.

Dogs must be kept on leads in cultivated areas, the main driveway, front lawns, tearooms, car parks and the gift shop. The grounds are generous enough for a decent wander between the heritage bits and the gift shop welcome means you can browse without leaving your dog outside.

It's a straightforward choice if you're after more than a beach day in Swanage and want to mix a castle visit with on-lead outdoor exploring. The access policy is clear, the grounds are genuinely dog-friendly and there's proper visitor infrastructure to make the trip worthwhile.
