That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

A proper local pub with the kind of easy, familiar atmosphere that makes it very simple to stop for one and somehow still be there a while later. Hop & Friar in Shrewsbury leans into classic pub comforts: good beer, sport on screen, a rear garden for brighter days and a snug with an open fire when the weather turns sulky. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle.
It feels like the sort of place that works for quick catch-ups, slower pints and those low-maintenance visits where nobody needs the pub to perform tricks. There is a dependable, no-fuss energy to it that suits Shrewsbury well, especially after a wander through town when all the group really wants is a seat, a drink and a bit of warmth.
Very solid "local favourite" territory, and the kind of pub that works for paws and people together whether the weather is bright or sulky.

Dogs are welcome inside, so this is an easy pub stop for pints, catch-ups and escaping the weather without splitting the pack. Expect classic pub comfort, a settled dog under the table and the usual hopeful look if crisps appear.
