Llawhaden Castle is a medieval ruin managed by Cadw in the Pembrokeshire countryside, about ten miles north of Tenby. Dogs are welcome on short leads and can explore the ground floor levels and exterior grounds of the site, making it a worthwhile heritage stop for anyone planning a castle outing with their dog. The castle itself is a free-entry ruin with limited parking within 250 metres, reached via a tarmaced lane.

The path into the site can be uneven and low-lying areas are prone to flooding in poor weather, so wellies and lead control are worth thinking about. Cadw also advises keeping dogs from eating vegetation around the site.

It's the kind of outing that suits a curious dog who enjoys a good sniff around old stonework and open air exploration. The access is straightforward, the setting is peaceful and the whole thing fits neatly into a wider Pembrokeshire day out without needing tickets or booking ahead.
