Lubens is a stylish independent bar and kitchen tucked just off the centre of Buxton, a few minutes from the Opera House. It manages that sweet spot between “a bit special” and “still properly comfortable,” with warm lighting, cosy corners and a layout that makes it just as good for a quiet drink as it is for a longer, food-led evening.
Food and drink are both taken seriously here. Expect a strong line-up of local cask ales, wines, cocktails and spirits, alongside a seasonal menu built around fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Sharing boards are a bit of a signature, with plenty of options that make settling in and staying a while feel like the obvious plan.
There’s also that extra layer of comfort — open fires, friendly service and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere — which gives it a proper “come in, stay longer than intended” energy.
