Museum Gardens is one of York’s loveliest pause-and-breathe spots, combining botanical planting, riverside calm and some of the city’s most atmospheric ruins in one open, central setting. With St Mary’s Abbey remains, seasonal planting and plenty of space to wander or sit, it works as both a destination in its own right and a very handy reset between heavier sightseeing stops. The fact that it is free to enter adds to the appeal, making it an easy, generous patch of green calm in the middle of York’s historic swirl.
