Penhallam Manor

Penhallam Manor is a moated medieval manor ruin looked after by English Heritage, tucked into the North Cornwall countryside south of Bude. What remains of the 13th-century stone walls and moat makes a short, atmospheric heritage stop and dogs on leads are welcome to explore the outdoor site with you. There's no admission charge and no booking required.

The ruins are open during daylight hours and a small free car park sits at the head of a half-mile access track. The ground can be muddy in wet weather, so boots and a towel are worth bringing.

It's a compact visit rather than an all-day outing, but it works well as a quick leg-stretch and history fix during a North Cornwall day out. Your dog gets fresh air and a change of scene and you both get a genuinely interesting slice of medieval manor life without the usual ropes and restrictions.
