Portwall Tavern is a historic Bristol pub tucked just behind Redcliffe, serving locals and passersby since 1847 and still holding onto that classic "proper pub" feel. Set opposite St Mary Redcliffe Church, it blends old character with a more modern, easy-going layout, making it just as suited to a quick stop as it is to settling in for a while.

There's a strong focus on good beer and simple, satisfying food, with local ales on rotation, weekday lunches and pizzas in the evenings. It naturally pulls in a mix of regulars, workers and wanderers drifting through the area, giving it that steady, lived-in atmosphere where things tick along comfortably.

Dogs pad in alongside you, finding a spot while the pints, conversations and low-key pub rhythm carry on. It's the kind of place where nobody needs to wait outside, and wet-weather refuge comes with proper beer and a warm corner.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement shuffle. Keep them on lead and settled under the table while you enjoy the pints and pizza.
