Days Out Are For Dogs Too

The Castle is one of Bude's standout landmarks, sitting right in the dunes above Summerleaze Beach with the canal running alongside. Built in 1830 and still carrying its original Victorian character, it feels equal parts grand and calm, with light-filled galleries, heritage displays, a café and a small shop all tucked inside. It's the sort of place you wander into for "just a quick look" and end up lingering, especially with the sea air drifting in and the lawn and bandstand just outside.
Inside, the spaces are airy and thoughtfully kept in period style, making it an easy, relaxed visit whether you're dipping into the exhibitions or stopping for coffee and cake. It's free to enter and open daily, which makes it a very handy "what now?" stop between beach walks and town exploring. The café runs slightly shorter hours than the main building, serving food through the middle of the day and drinks into the afternoon.
Dogs are welcome inside with a few gentle boundaries: some café rooms are dog-free, Mondays are dog-free days, and assistance dogs are always accepted. It's a thoughtful setup that keeps tails and heritage displays happily coexisting, and means nobody has to miss the Victorian charm or the cake stop.

Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome inside most days, but Mondays are dog-free and some café rooms stay paws-off to keep options open for everyone. Assistance dogs are always welcome, and leads keep the heritage displays safe from enthusiastic tail-wagging.
