That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Grayling sits just outside the main seaside buzz, but very much in that “worth the short detour” category when everyone’s hungry and nobody wants compromise. It’s a big, family-style pub with loads going on — from a daily carvery to a full menu of classic pub plates, so whether it’s roast dinners, sharers, or something quick, it ticks the “feeds everyone” box with ease.

Inside, it’s spacious and relaxed rather than cosy-corner vibes, with plenty of room for groups, families, and dogs to settle without feeling on top of each other. Outside, there’s a beer garden, and for anyone travelling with kids, there’s even a play area, which tends to shift the energy from “are we nearly done?” to “we might actually stay longer.”

It’s the kind of place you land after a full day out — sandy shoes, tired dog, everyone a bit hungry — and it just works. No overthinking required.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside in a designated dog-friendly area, so they can properly settle rather than hover at the edges. Expect water bowls, passing tail traffic, and the occasional food-focused stare from nearby tables.
