The Halt Coffee Shop is a friendly independent café on the Crab and Winkle Way side of Whitstable, where dogs are welcome inside for coffee and cake. It's a handy pit-stop for walkers heading in or out of town on the old railway path and reviewers mention a warm welcome for both customers and their four-legged companions. The café serves good coffee, home-baked cakes and light refreshments in a relaxed setting.

Dogs can settle with you at your table while you catch your breath and refuel. It's the sort of place where you can tie up outside or bring them straight in, depending on the weather and the state of their paws.

Open Thursday to Saturday, 9.30am to 3pm, The Halt is a useful stop if you're making a day of the coastal path or exploring Whitstable's quieter edges. Closed Sunday through Wednesday, so plan accordingly.
