That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Hope & Anchor is an independent free house in Bristol with a laid-back, slightly offbeat feel, built around good beer, solid food and a space that doesn't take itself too seriously. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle. Inside keeps that classic pub energy, while out the back the tropical-style beer garden adds something a bit different, a proper little escape when the weather plays along.

There's a strong focus on local beers, ales and cider, alongside pub food that covers the classics and a Sunday roast that gives you a solid reason to settle in for the afternoon. It's the kind of place that shifts easily from relaxed daytime pints into a livelier evening, with dogs padding in alongside you and finding their spot as things unfold.

Whether you're after a post-walk pint or a longer afternoon session, this is a proper neighbourhood pub where paws and people can settle in together without fuss.

Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle. Keep them on lead and settled under the table while you work through the beer list.
