That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Kings Head sits right at the top of Buxton, holding court on the Market Place in one of those proper old buildings that instantly feels like a “real pub” the moment you walk in.

Inside, it leans fully into classic pub character — high ceilings, bay windows, dark wood, and a mix of open dining spaces and tucked-away corners that let you choose your pace. It’s big enough to feel lively, but still has those quieter pockets where you can settle in properly after a walk.

Food is firmly in the “reliable comfort” lane — pub classics, easy choices, and good-value plates that make it just as suited to a full sit-down meal as it is to a casual drink that turns into staying longer than planned. There’s a steady, all-day rhythm here, with families, walkers and locals all folding into the same easy atmosphere.

It’s one of those anchor pubs you naturally orbit back to — central, spacious, and built for those “everyone’s tired, let’s just land somewhere easy” moments after a day in the Peaks.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome throughout the whole pub, so you can all head in together and settle wherever suits. Water bowls and treats are available, and the spacious layout makes it a comfortable option even at busier times.
