That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Punchbowl is a characterful Old Market pub in Bristol with roots stretching back to the early 1800s, blending historic charm with a cosy, modern feel. Dogs are welcome inside, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while the rest of the group heads in for a pint.

Beer is a big part of the draw, with rotating ales, craft cider and lagers on the bar, alongside a solid food offering that makes it just as suited to a meal as it is to a few drinks. The pub has a relaxed lounge space up front and a more open dining area leading through to a surprisingly spacious, heated beer garden. The open kitchen adds to the atmosphere, while the garden gives you that extra option whether it's a warm evening or a wrapped-up winter visit.

It's the kind of place that feels intimate without being cramped, with dogs padding in alongside you and settling into the space while the pints, plates and conversation carry on around them. Useful for wet-weather days when everyone—paws included—needs somewhere warm to land.
