Tintagel Castle is a dramatic English Heritage site set on the wild North Cornwall coast, about 18 miles from Bude and easily managed as a day trip. The clifftop ruins are split between the mainland and a windswept island, connected by a modern footbridge that makes the crossing part of the experience. Dogs on leads are welcome to explore the castle site and island areas with you, so the whole group can soak up the legends and the sea views together.
The visit takes in medieval ruins, exposed headland paths and exhibition content, with plenty of opportunities for lead-and-sniff negotiation on the stepped terrain. There's no on-site parking, but you'll find pay-and-display spaces in the village about 600 metres away. The castle is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm during the main season, with seasonal variations later in the year.
Advance booking secures a discount and it's worth checking the English Heritage website for current access arrangements. This is a ticketed attraction with real historical pull, ideal for dog owners who want a proper castle adventure without leaving anyone in the car.
