Days Out Are For Dogs Too

Indoor Welcome Last Verified:

Ullswater Steamers runs timetabled lake cruises from Pooley Bridge pier, around 25 miles from Keswick in the northern Lake District. Dogs are welcome on board all timetabled services for £1.50, making this a proper day-out attraction where nobody has to stay on shore with the dog while everyone else floats off. It is a boat trip with onboard facilities, multiple piers and a clear dog policy, so the planning is calmer than most waterside scrambling.
Dogs travel on a short lead and under close control, but they are not allowed on seats inside the saloons or on upper decks, so bring something for them to settle on if the boat is busy. Special event cruises usually exclude dogs unless the event description says otherwise, so check before booking anything festive or themed.
The dog ticket keeps everyone together on the cruise, which is useful when the Lake District weather turns theatrical and shore-waiting becomes less appealing. Pay-and-display parking is available nearby at Pooley Bridge, though facilities close for winter from November.
