Days Out Are For Dogs Too

That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Whinlatter Forest sits just a short drive from Keswick, one of those properly useful Forestry England destinations where dogs are welcome across the forest trails and in the cafes.
The main car park uses pay-on-exit charging, though car-free arrival is free and the summer bus route 77/77A runs between Keswick and Whinlatter for those who prefer to leave the car behind. Ground-nesting bird notices and the forest dog code apply, but that is standard countryside sense rather than anything restrictive. It is the kind of place that makes dog-first day planning calmer, because the forest is genuinely set up for dogs rather than just tolerating them.
The trails give plenty of sniff-level interest, the cafes keep everyone together after a muddy wander and it is marketed by Forestry England as a proper dog-friendly forest day out.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome across the forest trails, walking routes and in the cafes, so everyone can stay together for the whole day out. Follow the forest dog code and respect ground-nesting bird notices.
