Carlisle: A Paw-some Holiday Destination for You and Your Canine Companion!

Screenshot 2025-06-01 at 17.06.55.png

So, you're thinking of heading to Carlisle for a holiday? Excellent choice! And even better, you're bringing your dog! (Because let's face it, holidays are just better with a furry friend by your side). Carlisle isn't just any old city; it's a place steeped in history, buzzing with modern life, and surprisingly dog-friendly. Get ready for an adventure that will have both you and your four-legged pal wagging your tails.

A Walk Through History (and a sniff around the past)

Carlisle has been a key location throughout history, and while your dog might not appreciate the finer details of Roman settlements, you certainly will!

  • Hadrian's Wall: Just a short drive from Carlisle, you and your pooch can explore sections of this iconic Roman wall. Imagine your dog, a modern-day explorer, sniffing where Roman soldiers once stood guard!

  • Carlisle Castle: This imposing fortress has seen battles, sieges, and centuries of royal comings and goings. Dogs are welcome in the grounds, so you can soak up the history together (just keep them away from the battlements – safety first!).

  • A City of Sieges Carlisle has been sieged more times than almost any other place in the UK. (That's a lot of sieges!)

Carlisle Today: A Modern City with a Dog-Friendly Heart

Carlisle isn't just about the past; it's a vibrant city with plenty to offer modern-day visitors (and their canine companions):

  • Parks and Recreation: Carlisle boasts numerous parks and green spaces perfect for dog walks. Rickerby Park is a local favorite, offering stunning riverside paths and plenty of space for your dog to stretch its legs.

  • Dog-Friendly Pubs and Cafes: After a long walk, you'll need refreshments.

Why Carlisle is Perfect for a Dog-Friendly Holiday:

  • Variety: History, nature, and city life – Carlisle has it all. You and your dog will never be bored.

  • Accessibility: Carlisle is well-connected by road and rail, making it easy to reach from most parts of the UK.

  • Atmosphere: Carlisle is a friendly and welcoming city, and you'll find plenty of fellow dog lovers to chat with.
