Avon Valley Railway (Bitton Station) https://www.avonvalleyrailway.org/ Last Updated: 17 Sept 2025 Welcome to The Avon Valley Railway Opened in 1869 by the Midland Railway as a through-route between Birmingham and the South Coast the line was later linked to the iconic Somerset & Dorset Railway. Closed under the Beeching Axe of the 1960's the Avon Valley Railway was preserved by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Today, 50 years on, three miles of track has been re-laid, locomotives and carriages restored, and the sound of steam can once again be heard along the Avon Valley. Dogs are welcome on the station site and trains on most days. The only exception are our Santa Steam Specials, some Family events and our dining trains. One of Bristol’s oldest character pubs dating back to the late 1500’s (the pavement still has iron edges to prevent damage by heavy cart-wheeled carriages), The Seven Stars remains largely unchanged from its origins in a city now packed with an ever changing sea of trendy bars and clubs. We offer a fantastic selection of over 30 different cask ales every week, plus traditional “West Country” ciders and perries. With a décor best described as a unique mix of both shabby and chic we are located just off Bristol bridge in the heart of Redcliffe Village, close to the commercial heart of the city we are open all day and offer a warm, some would say old fashioned welcome to customers old and new. We are independent, “free”, and happy to be: We have survived the wars, the bombings, the Luftwaffe, the riots, the poll tax, the developers and 1960’s planners who built some truly awful buildings. The field is approximately 2 acres in size and is available to hire for your own personal use for you and your dog which will give you the opportunity to allow them to run and explore in a safe area. We are a fully secure dog field with approximately 1.8 meter high specialist dog wire that is also dug into the ground. We allow and welcome Banned Breeds further information can be found on the banned breeds page. Sheepway Secure Dog Field is perfect for people with puppies, dogs in training, reactive dogs, dogs with poor recall or if you are trying to build your dogs confidence. As the population of our beautiful companions is increasing and the local areas where people walk them are getting busier, utilising secure fields is a great way to exercise your dog with the knowledge that they will have the field to themselves to exercise and sniff to their hearts content! We want to keep your dogs busy, in the field you will find agility equipment and a water tap to wash your dog off or get them a drink on a hot day. You are welcome to bring any toys with you as well. The field has a shelter if it’s raining and a picnic bench to sit and relax on during the great british summer! We know you and your dog will have a great time at Sheepway Secure Dog Field. There is also a dog waste bin and a supply of poo bags if you have forgotten to bring your own.
